How much to charge for your cookies

Two calculations almost nobody does: what every cookie you sell really costs you, and what every cookie cutter you print really costs you. Enter your numbers and see it instantly. No signup, and we don't store anything.

Currency

The values are in your own currency. We don't convert anything: the numbers are yours, only the symbol changes.

Your numbers

Enter what you spend and how long it takes. If a field doesn't apply, leave it at 0.

Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, flavorings, food coloring… everything that goes into one batch.
What you'd charge for one hour of your time.
Electricity, gas, internet, tools, rent.
In baking, 40 to 60% is normal.
If you enter it, we'll tell you how much you're leaving on the table.
Watch out for your time. It's the cost almost nobody charges for and the one that eats the most profit. If your hour is worth 25 and a batch of 24 cookies takes you 3 hours, that's more than 3 per cookie just in labor.

What you should be charging

It updates on its own as you type. The numbers are yours: we just do the math.

Price per cookie
$15,85
per cookie, with 50% margin
Ingredients$2,50
Your labor$3,13
Packaging$1,50
Fixed costs$0,80
Cost per cookie$7,93
Profit per cookie$7,93
The dozen$190,20
ingredients labor packaging fixed
How it's calculated, no mystery: we add up the cost of each cookie (ingredients + your time + packaging + a share of fixed costs) and then apply your margin on top of that cost. Nothing more. If the result looks high, it isn't wrong: it almost always means you weren't charging for your time before.

Frequently asked questions

What everyone asks before setting a price

How do I work out the real cost of a cookie?
Add up the ingredients for one batch and divide by how many cookies come out. Then add the packaging, the share of your fixed costs that belongs to each cookie, and —what almost nobody does— your hours of work. That's the cost. The price comes from adding your margin on top. That's the calculation the calculator above does.
Do you charge for labor?
Yes, and not charging for it is the most common mistake. If a batch of 24 cookies takes you 3 hours and your hour is worth 25, every cookie already carries more than 3 in labor before you even decorate it. If you don't charge for it you're not earning: you're working for free and believing you have a margin.
What margin do you use in baking?
Between 40 and 60% of the selling price. Be careful with the math, because this is where most people get it wrong: the margin isn't added to the cost, it's taken off the price. At 50%, the price is double the cost (price = cost ÷ 0.50). If you multiply the cost by 1.5 and think that's a 50% margin, it's actually 33%.
What if I print the cookie cutters myself?
The math changes: filament, electricity, machine wear, and your finishing time. Filament is usually less than half the real cost, so if you only charge for material you're working at a loss without realizing it. It's in the second tab.
